Shubael Bumps, son of Benjamin Bumps and Hannah Kelloh, was born on 10 November 1821 in Thorndike, Waldo, Maine. He died on 8 May 1885 at the age of 63 in China, Kennebec, Maine. He was buried at China Village Cemetery in China, Kennebec, Maine.
